## In short

You may qualify for IFICI if you work in research, innovation, a qualified job or a certified start-up, and were not resident in Portugal in the previous five years. IFICI taxes qualifying Portuguese work income at 20% for ten years. If your residence starts in 2026, register by 15 January 2027; a late registration counts only from its own year.

What decides it:

- your activity, and its confirmation by the body competent for it;
- the year your residence starts;
- that you were not resident in Portugal in the previous five years;
- that you have never benefited from NHR and did not opt for Regressar.

## What you get

- Advice on whether you qualify for IFICI.
- The evidence file for your activity.
- The registration request by the deadline, made on the Portal das Finanças for the entity competent for your activity, with your employer's confirmation where the rules require it.
- With Moving to Portugal with IFICI, everything in Moving to Portugal as well: the start of your residence, your first tax year, its calendar and coordination with your adviser abroad.
- A call with your adviser when your case needs it.

## How it works

1. After payment, you upload your documents in your portal, including the evidence of your activity.
2. Your eligibility advice reaches your portal, signed by your adviser, and we make the registration request by the deadline.

## What is not included

- A reply or a claim if the registration is refused, which we quote separately.

## What clients say

- > Taxbordr’s IFICI eligibility assessment caught a qualifying-category error my previous advisor missed. The corrected election filing secured approval on first attempt.

  British IFICI applicant, Lisbon
- > I had French rental income, a UK freelance contract, and Portuguese salary from a Lisbon employer. I knew I needed IFICI but had no idea which streams to declare in which box. Telmo's team built a declaration schedule that showed exactly what went where, and I stopped losing sleep over whether I'd missed something.

## Questions

### What if IFICI does not apply to me?

If the eligibility advice concludes that IFICI does not apply, we stop there. You keep the advice, you pay only for it, and the rest is refunded.

### I became resident in 2025 and did not register. Is it too late?

You can still register, but a late registration counts only from its own year, so the years before it do not benefit from the regime.

### Who decides whether I am registered?

The registration is decided by the competent authorities, not by us. We prepare the evidence file and make the request, so that it reaches them complete and on time.

### Can an employer arrange the registration for its staff?

Each employee is our client; the employer may pay the fee and, on most routes, confirms the role and its own activity by the date the tax authority sets. We share each person's facts with the employer only as far as that confirmation needs.
