Payroll for a company with no entity here can run through a provider the company chooses. Once you set up a Portuguese company, our partner accountant can keep its accounts, run its payroll and sign its return, and bills that work directly.
What decides your case

- A stay passing 183 days in any 12-month period, or a habitual home, makes staff resident from their first day here.
- Contracts habitually concluded here, or a fixed place of business, can make part of your profit taxable here.
- Without an entity here, payroll can run through a provider; Social Security is 23.75% for you, 11% for staff.
- EU staff posted here can keep their home Social Security with an A1.

What clients say
My salary was still being paid from the US, but California also thought I had not really left. I needed someone who understood Portugal first, then could read the treaty and the state-residency problem without turning it into guesswork. The advice gave my US CPA a clear position to work from.
American tech employee, Lisbon I had a US W-2 salary, stock options, and a California filing requirement that didn't disappear when I moved. Most Portuguese advisors I spoke to had no idea what a PFIC was or why my 1099-B mattered here. Telmo walked me through the US-Portugal treaty article by article and showed me which income was taxable where. That kind of depth is rare.
