Hiring in Portugal from abroad

If your company abroad is hiring in Portugal, we set out the payroll, Social Security and permanent-establishment position, and IFICI for the person you hire.

What decides your case

  • A stay passing 183 days in any 12-month period, or a habitual home, makes a hire resident from their first day here.
  • Without an entity here, payroll can run through a provider; Social Security is 23.75% for you, 11% for the employee.
  • Contracts habitually concluded here, or a fixed place of business, can make part of your profit taxable here.
  • A hire not resident here in the previous five years may get IFICI's 20% rate for ten years, usually with your confirmation.

Tax Consultation for your company

A 30-minute call with your adviser on a question for you and the company, then a follow-up memo within 3 working days after the call.

Bring one question for you and the company together, such as what a first hire here costs.

What clients say

  • Taxbordr’s IFICI eligibility assessment caught a qualifying-category error my previous advisor missed. The corrected election filing secured approval on first attempt.

  • You deal directly with the person doing the analysis. No account managers, no ticket numbers. When my situation changed a year later, I emailed and got a straight answer from the same person who already knew my file.
